June 27- July 13, 2005

Regensberg, Kellheim and the Road to Munich
Tasting Notes:

Regensburg

Zur Brauschanke 3 Galgenberg St
Thurn and Taxis has now been taken over by Paulaner.

  • Roggen -- Only a slight hint of rye, dunkel weisse-like, sweet
  • Zwickel -- unflitered golden color
Cordon bleu with pork (i.e. pork chop wrapped in ham and cheese)

View from Kneitinger Keller

Regensberg

Kneitinger Keller 18 Galgenberg St

beautiful setting and view, no doubt about to be ruined by construction immediately down the hill

  • Dunkel - nice and roasty, dark with bittersweet chocolate flavors
  • Pils - hoppier than most, bright, gold, crisp
Note the great deal on bratwursts, only 64.50 E for 100!

Essing

(small town outside Kellheim with brewery -- Josef Schneider's Kleines Brauhaus,
castle and world's longest wooden suspension bridge)

Josef Schneider
Helles - malty, creamy/butter at end
Dunkles -- no nose, metallic, dry

Kellheim (Founders Days Celebration on main street)

Schneider Weisse (on draft) nice, refreshing
Aventius (in bottle) strong, sweet, unfiltered, very good

Karmelietenbrau (at G. W. Schneider & Sons Brauerei)
Dunkel - nice caramel
Helles/Vollbier - fine. Not much to it.

Weltenberger Kloister
Klosterweizen (from bottle) very nice
Bock (also in bottle) - Excellent, yummy
